(PEDAL DOWN PROMOTIONS) May 7, 2021 – Two years ago when Sheboygan’s Trevor Frank geared up to go to an area dirt track race, he brought a camera bag loaded with lenses and a keen eye for capturing top-notch racing action images. Today, Frank’s dirt track race gear consists of a helmet bag, driving suit and a burning desire to be a key part of the action at the front of the Plymouth Dirt Track Racing B Mod pack.
After capturing the 2020 PDTR B Mod Rookie of the Year Award in his first year of racing at any level, Frank fired up the 2021 campaign with a strong third-place finish in the season-opening B Mod A main at The Plymouth Dirt Track at the Sheboygan County Fairgrounds in Plymouth, Wis. on Saturday, May 1.
“My main goal for this year is a top five in PDTR B Mod points,” Frank said. “During our first night out last week, we finished third in the A main, so we’ve set a solid foundation this year to achieve that goal.”
Like many racers, the sport was introduced to Frank at an early age through the direct involvement of family members.
“My grandpa raced for many years before I was born,” Frank said. “My brother in 2012 ran an Outlaw Compact, and then in 2014 moved to a Grand National and ultimately decided to get out of it.”
Initially drawn to the photography side of the sport, Frank eventually found himself in the driver’s seat for the very first time during the 2020 PDTR season.
“I started photography back in about 2013 or 2014,” Frank said. “I was the track photographer at Manitowoc Speedway before it closed, then Plymouth for a few years and Gravity Park Speedway in Chilton for a few years. I went freelance in 2018 and 2019 and attended events, such as the Gateway Dirt Nationals in St. Louis and enjoyed every second of it. I just thought it was time to stop watching everyone else have the fun of driving and start to do it myself.
“My first year in any car ever was 2020, my rookie campaign in the B Mods,” he said. “During my rookie season, I had three top-five A-main finishes and six top-10 finishes to finish seventh overall in PDTR B Mod points. I also earned a heat race win in my second night out ever at Gravity Park Speedway.”
The Sheboygan resident, who plans to go to school to become a welder in the fall, takes plenty of pride in earning the 2020 PDTR B Mod Rookie of the Year Award.
“I would definitely say my career highlight so far was being able to get the B Mod Rookie of the Year Award at Plymouth last year,” Frank said. “There were fast and consistent drivers lobbying for the same goal of being rookie of the year. We had a good recovery after a very poor start to our 2020 season.”
Frank thoroughly appreciates how the sport of dirt track racing has brought his family and friends together to work toward a common goal, while forging lasting relationships and lifetime memories on and off the track.
“I really enjoy having my family and friends around on race nights,” Frank said. “As a smaller team, which works out of a single-car garage located in the dead middle of Sheboygan, we don’t have a lot of crew. Generally, it’s me, my dad, my mom and my girlfriend, Makayla, who are in the pits on any given night. Everyone has their little jobs they do to make this program go round.”
As for the future, Frank has aspirations of eventually advancing to the next level of Modified racing.
“Eventually, when we move on from B Mods, I’d like to go to an A Mod,” Frank said. “Those have always been my favorite type of car. Hopefully, one day the opportunity comes up for me to own one.”
Sponsors for the 2021 Trevor Frank Motorsports team include Throttle Down Threads, American Senior Benefits of Wisconsin, Odyssey Fun Center, Doug’s Skip’er Inn, Cody’s Custom Bodies, Crazy G Design and Frank Motorsports.
“Along with all of my sponsors, a big shoutout goes to everyone who bought a spot on the decking this year as well,” Frank said. “I’d also like to thank Cody Schroeder for his help this off-season. He not only bent up one of the best racecar bodies I’ve ever seen, but he also helped me a lot with getting the car scaled and dialed so that we could be competitive.”
