On Thursday, April 29 th , Bernice E. Hubert enjoyed a lovely day with
family and friends, then slipped the bonds of this earth to rest in the arms of
her Heavenly Father. She was always unpredictable. Bernice lived all 96
years of her life in Sheboygan, and some of them were good. Her parents
were John and Emma (Hemb) Goedeke, who instilled a love of fun and
parties in their daughter. Bernice attended Jefferson Elementary School and
North High School. She worked for her aunt at the Artistic Beauty Salon,
and at the Vollrath Company during WWII, assisting in the war effort. In
1951 she was united in marriage to Victor Hubert. Bernice was a devoted
mother and homemaker who loved crafting, baking, canning, cooking,
helping others, and entertaining when Vic would let her. She made beautiful
sets of the Three Wise Men, some of which still adorn Sheboygan homes at
Christmas time. She also worked part-time at Imogene’s Cleaners to help
pay for college, God bless her. Bernie loved to bowl with her team at North
Bowl, and to golf in the ladies’ league at Town & Country. After Vic died in
1993, Bernie proceeded to have some fun, spending time with her
grandchildren, traveling the world with friends, and traveling the country to
golf with her golfing buddies. In recent years Bernice’s wings were clipped
by a stroke, yet she remained a joy to be with, though any mention of the
unplugged stove or the sale of her car would change that. The family wishes
to especially thank her kind caregiver, MaryJo, and her long-suffering
cleaning lady, Dawn, who didn’t really hide all those things.
Survivors include her three wonderful children, all of Sheboygan: Sandra
(Joseph) Zagozen, Mark (Pam) Hubert, and Vicki (Angus) Menuge, her
talented grandchildren Michelle (Jason) Bernloehr of Plymouth, MN,
MaryJo Zagozen of Sheboygan, Aidan (Katelyn) Menuge of Boise, ID,
Corin (Adam) Menuge of London, England, and great-grandson Ben
Bernloehr. Bernice is also survived by many nieces and nephews, but she
outlasted most of her friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her
husband, her sister Mabel Herte, and her brother John Goedeke Jr.
Family and friends may gather to reminisce, share smiles, and praise God
in honor of Bernice’s life, at her home church, Luther Memorial Church,
1127 Eisner Avenue in Sheboygan, on Wednesday, May 5 th , with visitation
from 9 am until the time of service at 11 am. Pastor Adam Barkley will
officiate. Entombment will follow at Garden Terrace Mausoleum in
Lutheran Cemetery. Memorials for Bernice will go to Luther Memorial
Church.
