(WHBL) – Even as vaccinations lend encouragement to those anticipating a return to normal, the reality of an ongoing pandemic remains, and that is affecting activities during the second summer under its grip.
The Elkhart Lake Fire Department announced on Tuesday that it was cancelling the 2021 Annual Firemen’s Picnic, normally a highlight of the Independence Day weekend in the popular resort village. The decision was made after consulting county, state and federal guidelines.
The picnic normally serves as the department’s largest fundraiser, making the decision difficult, but one made with safety as a top priority.
Despite cancellation of the picnic, plans are going forward for a fireworks display on Friday, July 2nd, as well as a drive-through brat fry on Saturday the 3rd at the Elkhart Lake/Town of Rhine Fire Station.
