MADISON, WI (WTAQ) — Your experience at Wisconsin’s state parks is going to look a lot more normal this summer.
The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources is walking back or easing many of the restrictions that were put in place at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“We’re [now] able to have more opportunities,” said the DNR’s Diane Brusoe. “Allow them to be on the playground and the observation towers, and increase our capacity limits.”
Observation towers and playgrounds are opening up again. Open air shelters and campgrounds will have increased capacity. Volunteer group sizes are also increasing and stand-alone concessions will open at 50% capacity.
State parks were a major draw last year when so much else closed down at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“This past year people have felt most safe either at home or being outdoors,” said Brusoe. “We’ve been happy to be able to provide a place for people to get outside.”
