MADISON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Wisconsin saw a spike in new confirmed coronavirus cases on Wednesday, with the state Department of Health Services reporting the most new cases in almost a month.
DHS said 776 of the 6,290 total tests, or 12.3%, came back positive. That was the highest total since 840 new cases were reported on Feb. 25. The number of tests reported was also the highest since Feb. 25, when 12,533 were done.
DHS’ dashboard also showed 353 new cases on Tuesday. The data was not updated on Tuesday, with DHS citing technical difficulties.
The state also reported 11 deaths on Tuesday and 10 on Wednesday.
The rolling seven-day average of new cases increased to 452, its highest level since March 5. The seven-day average of deaths stood at seven.
Since the pandemic began, Wisconsin has seen 573,899 confirmed cases and 6,597 deaths. DHS considers 560,775 people to have recovered from COVID-19, the illness caused by the coronavirus.
The progress of vaccinations continued, as 1,534,154 people, or 26.3% of the state’s population, had received at least one dose and 893,146, or 15.3%, had completed their vaccine series. Among people 65 and older, 73.2% had received at least one dose and 51% had finished their vaccination course.
A total of 2,442,810 doses had been administered in the state at of Wednesday.
