Orange barrels are showing up all over Sheboygan County, signaling the start of construction season with a collection of three major projects outlined by the Wisconsin Department of Transportation.
The expansion of Highway 23 that began two years ago and finishes next year will continue in 2021 with the completion of grading – and then paving – the new lanes. 23 will generally remain open with traffic routed on either the existing or new lanes, and only one full nighttime closure is expected during the summer.
Things won’t be as convenient near Cedar Grove as Highway 32 between the village and I-43 will undergo a full closure for an expected 30 days sometime between April and August. That will involve road resurfacing, storm sewer and sidewalk construction, as well as reconstructing the railroad crossing. That project then merges with the resurfacing of I-43 from the south county line to Wilson/Lima Road. The I-43 segment will involve only single-lane closures and is also scheduled for an August completion.
The third major operation involves the construction of a single-lane roundabout at the intersection of Highway 28 and County “EE” near Sheboygan Falls. A full closure will be needed beginning this spring until its completion in July.
