(WHBL) – Wisconsinites receiving payments from the federal Pandemic Unemployment Assistance program can expect a letter soon from the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development to inform them of new requirements to receive the money. That program provides benefits for people who are not eligible for regular unemployment insurance, like those who are self-employed or certain independent contractors.
The new requirement was put in place in December, and it requires proof that one was either employed or self-employment for the year before the assistance was applied for. Failure to provide proof will require repayment of any assistance received on December 27th or later.
If you were looking for work during the pandemic, you can also provide proof of that to continue receiving funds. Details will be in the letters now being sent by the Wisconsin DWD.
