Partnerships between local and state economic developers and Alliant Energy were credited by the regional energy company with nurturing growth of $326.4 million and 730 new jobs in Wisconsin last year. Among the ten projects listed was a grid expansion that will enable Johnsonville to produce more of its fully-cooked sausage products in Sheboygan.
The rural Sheboygan County sausage maker that’s based northeast of Plymouth is expected to begin adapting the former Wigwam Mills facility in Sheboygan for sausage production this year, and full operations are expected in 2022. The expansion will add 75 well-paying jobs in the community, while the grid improvements by Alliant required by the project will improve electricity supply to surrounding employers and the community.
Eric Stavriotis of CBRE, a Wisconsin-based commercial real estate developer that helped Johnsonville select the Sheboygan site, called Alliant’s partnership a key to the success of the project.
