The grip held by the SARS-CoV-2 virus on Sheboygan County continues easing, as active case numbers drop to levels not seen in nearly 4 months. 457 active cases were on record in Monday’s report from the County Division of Public Health, the lowest since 455 cases were seen on October 12th of 2020. 39 of 226 test returns received since Friday, or 17%, were positive for COVID-19. That brings to 12,463 the number of cases confirmed so far. 96 more persons recovered from the coronavirus.
Statewide, 3,250 more cases were recorded Saturday through Monday, 750 of those today, raising the state total to 543,165 cases so far. One more death today raised the toll to 5,897. Another 39 persons were hospitalized, and after accounting for deaths and discharges, the COVID patient population fell 11 in the last day to 686, 146 of those in ICU beds. 457 patients in all were on ventilators.
The County DPH reported on Monday that the next group eligible for vaccinations is scheduled to begin on March 1st. That will include educators, individuals enrolled in Medicaid LTC programs, mink husbandry, public-facing essential workers, non-frontline health care personnel and people who live in congregate settings. Vaccinations have already begun for adults age 65 and over, police and fire personnel, correctional staff, frontline health care personnel and residents & staff in skilled nursing and long-term care facilities.
