There’s a new robotic injection system that’s being created by Pharm Robotics called SureShot. The system is basically a shot giving robot. The company explains that SureShot will reduce labor costs, save time, improve the health of the cows, and increase production. Those may all be bold statements to make for a product that’s not on the market yet, but it makes sense.
According to Pharm Robotics, research shows that farmers can expect a savings of $285 per cow every year by using the new robot. The money’s broken down into $85/cow when it comes to labor because you won’t need anyone to administer shots. Plus, $200 in savings from improved pregnancy rates, which also brings higher milk production for the herd.
Here’s how SureShot works:
- When the cows leave the parlor, they’ll start walking out to some automated gates.
- As the cow goes through the gates, they’ll have a RFID tracker that will get scanned and show if they need any vaccination.
- If they don’t, then the gates stay open and they keep going.
- If the cow does need to be vaccinated, the gates will close and a robotic arm will give them the specific shot they need in the neck.
If this sounds like something you could use, you might want to start saving some money. The company explained that the robotic system will have a base retail price of $300,000 and they plan to sell the product through independent dealers. There’s no word yet on when SureShot could be available.
