Arlis was born on November 2, 1931 and attended Grant and Jefferson elementary schools. She graduated from Sheboygan North High with the class of 1950. As a teenager Arlis worked at The Strand Theatre. As a young stay-at-home mom Arlis was active with her daughters Girl Scout troops and the Washington Grade School PTA. She sewed most of their clothes until they turned 16 years old! Arlis was employed at Pranges and Diamond Printing before her employment at Evans Variety Store on North 8th Street from 1973 – 1986. She loved people and enjoyed getting to know Evans regular customers and vendors
Arlis was an avid seamstress and found a special pleasure in sewing ties for her husband, Vic, to wear to work and church. He had ties to complement every shirt in his closet and ties for every holiday! Arlis had quite a bit of artistic talent which was evident in her sewing, tatting, knitting, needlepoint, embroidery and crocheting projects. Most noteworthy are the quilts, wall hangings and numerous paintings that now grace our homes. Arlis took great joy in sewing personalized quilted throw pillows to friends celebrating special life events.
She had great fun collecting postcards on trips with Vic, then randomly sending them out to family and friends when the spirit moved her. Arlis became an expert at keeping her family supplied with homemade peanut butter balls and her famous Ranger cookies. She loved to play cards and board games and was especially adept at Chinese Checkers. With her family spread across the US, she enjoyed corresponding with them via handwritten letters. She was quite a gal and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Arlis was a member of St. John’s UCC – Sheboygan and was a past member of the Altar Guild. She and Vic truly enjoyed regular attendance at the Sunday, 9:00 church service and being a part of that wonderful congregation.
Due to COVID a private service is planned with Reverend Gregory Whelton presiding.
A memorial fund has been established in her name for St. John’s U.C.C. Church Choir.
Olson Funeral Home, 1132 Superior Avenue has been entrusted with Arlis’ arrangements.
