SHEBOYGAN, WI (WHBL) – Problem use of opioids and stimulants is an epidemic in Wisconsin, according to DHS Secretary-Designee Andrea Palm, and Sheboygan County is no exception. That’s why our county received part of a nearly $9 million program to provide treatment services for the harmful use of opioids and stimulants.
23 county agencies and five tribal nations shared the money, which should help expand drug treatment services where they’re needed the most. All 23 will get increased funding for medications used for opioid dependency, and 13 will have more available for treating stimulant abuse, getting treatment to more than 2100 persons in all.
Sheboygan County’s share is $153,500. Manitowoc County received over $800,000 and Washington County also received more than $337,000. Grant awards were based on the level of need for treatment services along with the types of services needed.
