SHEBOYGAN, WI (WHBL) – As we enter a long weekend of Christmas celebrations, the Sheboygan County Division of Public Health broke the sad news of five deaths due to COVID-19 on Wednesday, raising the county death toll to 91. Of the five deaths being reported, two persons were in their 60s and three were 80 or older. So far, deaths have been experienced by two in their 30s, three in their 40s, five in their 50s, fourteen in their 60s, twenty-three in their 70s, and 44 were 80 or older.
Within the last 24-hours, 196 test returns were recorded. 61 of those, or 31%, were positive for COVID-19. 10,975 cases have now been reported in Sheboygan County, and 1,214 of those remain active. That’s 31 less than Tuesday as 87 cases have recovered in the previous 24 hours. Active cases peaked at 2,634 on November 24th and have been declining since. 19 persons are hospitalized here for treatment of their symptoms, down 1 from Tuesday.
When examining the two-week trajectory and activity levels for Sheboygan County, a “Very High” activity level was reported Wednesday (the second-highest level) with a burden of 967.6 cases per 100,000 persons, and a trajectory that has declined 19% in the last 14 days.
The Wisconsin Department of Health Services recorded another 2,579 positive tests for COVID-19 since Tuesday, raising the case total to 463,594. With 6,277 negative results, the positive rate was 29%. 69 deaths due to COVID-19 were reported, and the death toll now stands at 4,614. 164 more persons were hospitalized, and after accounting for deaths and discharges the COVID-19 patient population is 1,243. Another 44 patients are awaiting their test results. 260 patients occupy ICU beds, and 484 ventilators are in use. Only 2 patients are being treated at the Alternate Care Facility at State Fair Park in West Allis.
Due to the holiday season, the County DPH will not issue its next daily report until Monday, December 28. A similar 3-day schedule of releases will take place the following week of the New Year Holiday.
