Alice Mae Petzold Stoll entered her eternal life on Saturday, December 12, 2020, at the Sharon S.
Richardson Community Hospice in Sheboygan Falls, Wisconsin. She was born on New Year’s Day, 1930,
in Wausau, Wisconsin and was the youngest of seven children born to William and
Minnie Heidemann Petzold.
Alice attended Wausau East High School and it was during this time she began her life-long love and
passion for singing. Following high school, she attended Wisconsin State Teachers College-
Milwaukee (now UW-Milwaukee). It was in a music class that Alice met a young piano-playing music
major, Bob Stoll, whom she would marry in 1951. The singer and the music man would make music
together for nearly 60 years and create a family of seven children. Following several early career-related
moves, they settled in Plymouth in 1968 to raise their family.
Alice was lovingly called “Big Al” by her husband, children and many family friends because of her ability
to get any job done. She reveled in life and was embraced by those who knew her for her warmth, humor
and loving ways.
She was a remarkable woman with many talents. Singing was a constant passion and pursuit in Alice’s
life. She was a lead alto in John Michael Kohler Arts Center productions, soloist for many weddings and
a soloist/choir member at many churches, including St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Plymouth, Our
Lady of Lourdes and Prince of Peace, both in Sun City West, AZ. She enjoyed mentoring Bob’s high
school choral students, assisting him in their development. In fact, Alice was called upon as a last-minute
replacement of an ailing student and sang “Climb Every Mountain” as Mother Abbess (Reverend
Mother) in the Plymouth High School production of Sound of Music.
Alice converted to Catholicism early in her marriage and her faith, along with her family, was the most
important aspect in her life. Faith, family, and music marked Alice’s 90 years on this earth. In retirement,
Alice and Bob spent time in both Sun City West, AZ and their Medicine Lake cottage in Three Lakes. She
later resided at Cedar Bay Assisted Living in Elkhart Lake.
Alice passed away peacefully surrounded by the love of her children and grandchildren and to the sounds
of the keyboard recordings of her late husband Bob. She is survived by her children, Sue
Wals of Plymouth, Jenny (Chuck) Gibson of Green Valley, AZ, John (Debbie) Stoll of Kiel, Mark
(Ramona) Stoll of Rothschild, Chris (Mary Grace) Stoll of Lone Tree, CO, Tom (Lana) Stoll of Lake in the
Hills, IL, and Laura (Steve) Sartori of Plymouth.
She is also survived by her grandchildren, Chris Wals, Jamie (Jesse) Schneider, Ali Dellger, Shawn
Gibson, Jenny (Dale) Schilder, Danny (Caitlin) Stoll, Nikki (Chris) Olthoff, Liza (Troy) Struve, Brooke
(Sonny) Zuliani, Jack and Grace Stoll, Sarah and Jane Stoll, and ten great grandchildren with another
due in March, 2021. She is also survived by her husband's twin brother, Richard (Maryanne) Stoll and
many nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by her loving husband Robert (Bob) J. Stoll, her parents, her father- and mother-in-
law Henry and Mille Mushinski Stoll, her siblings, son-in-law Barry Wals, granddaughter Katie
Wals, grandson Jerry Gibson, numerous extended family members, and special friend Lucy Dellger.
