(WHBL) – One of the hottest things on people’s list right now might not be a Christmas gift, but a vaccination against COVID-19, and as vaccines are primed for approval, scammers are primed to cash in according to the Better Business Bureau of Wisconsin.
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement – or “ICE” – is already working to stop the sale and distribution of phony versions by some bad operators. But others are using the demand for vaccine as a route to stealing your personal data through phishing messages.
Con artists have already impersonated the CDC and World Health Organization in emails claiming to have news about the disease, and the Better Business Bureau is already receiving complaints of robocalls trying to impersonate government officials. The advice from the BBB for now is to ignore calls for immediate action. Never give out personal information like passwords or account numbers, and if you have questions about getting a vaccination, contact your primary care physician.
