(WHBL) – In a year known for things going wrong, one thing went very, very right – the fall harvest. According to members of Wisconsin-based Edge Dairy Cooperative, this year’s weather conditions “couldn’t have been more perfect.”
In contrast to last year at this time, when much of Sheboygan County’s corn was still standing in the fields, most of the grain and silage has been harvested, and fall tillage is also nearly complete. According to the National Agriculture Statistical Services, 95% of southeastern Wisconsin’s corn is in, while tillage is at 92%. Those numbers were 63% and 43% respectively in the state last year at this time.
Another piece of good news: Ninety-seven percent of winter wheat was emerged, more than 4 weeks ahead of last year. Winter wheat condition were rated 84% good to excellent statewide.
