SHEBOYGAN, WI (WHBL) – The Sheboygan County Division of Public Health, in its daily report on the coronavirus pandemic in the county, said that it was “sad to report seven deaths today. Of the seven deaths reported today, one is in the 40-49 age group, one is in the 50-59 age group, one is in the 70-79 age group, and four are in the 80+ age group.” 61 in the county have now died from COVID-19.
Fluctuations in the numbers such as were reported today are to be expected due to the time it takes to qualify and assemble the data, and a more accurate picture can be gotten by considering 2-week rates and trajectories. And even as the death toll surged, the number of new cases added today was more or less consistent with the previous six days when considered on a per-day average.
57 new positive test returns were received since Monday, making for a total of 9,182 cases of COVID-19 so far in Sheboygan County. With 216 results received in all, the positive percentage was 26.3%. 101 persons recovered in the last 24-hour period, and the active case count fell 51 to 2,326. Hospitalizations in the county rose 2 to 24.
Wisconsinites received 4,078 positive test returns and 6,414 negatives in the last 24-hour period, raising the confirmed case count to 391,313 at a 38.8% rate of positives. 107 deaths were added today, and 3,420 Wisconsin residents have now succumbed to the coronavirus. 277 more persons entered hospitals for treatment of their COVID-19 symptoms, putting the patient population at 1,827 statewide, 18 fewer than the day before. Of those, 415 are in ICU’s. Another 131 persons are hospitalized with suspected cases, and 597 persons are on ventilators….about one-fourth of capacity.
The Sheboygan County DPH has added a page with links to vaccine-related resources to the county website. Through it, one can access the Wisconsin DHS COVID-19 Vaccine page, learn about the approval process of COVID-19 vaccines, track the progress of those currently going through that process, learn about the Emergency Use Authorization and what the CDC is doing to ensure the safety of those vaccines in the US. State-developed distribution plans are also available there, as is information on what can be done while awaiting a vaccine.
