(WHBL) – The biggest outdoor event in Wisconsin has to be the annual deer hunt, and the biggest part of that – the nine-day gun deer season – opens on Saturday.
According to the Wisconsin DNR, hunters took just over 288 thousand deer during all seasons, including archery, last year, while about 794,000 permits were sold.
Those permits are mandatory, and the DNR says getting one is easy by setting up an account online at GoWild.WI.gov. Selecting where you hunt is harder, and if you’re hoping to get an antlerless permit, many counties have already sold their limit depending upon where you hunt. For instance, Sheboygan County has no more antlerless permits available on public land, but 415 for private properties.
As they say, the devil is in the details, and Wisconsin’s deer hunt has plenty of those, so be sure to check all the rules online at https://dnr.wisconsin.gov/
