(WHBL) – Last year over 196,000 deer were taken by Wisconsin hunters during the gun deer season, and that’s a lot of venison. The Wisconsin DNR is hoping that some of that will be donated in order to help feed families in need through the Wisconsin Deer Donation Program.
Since 2000, more than 92,000 deer have been donated, totaling more than 3.7 million pounds of venison distributed to Wisconsin food pantries.
Sarah Wyrick of the DNR says the deer can be donated at a participating meat processor, or a monetary donation can be made when purchasing a license. That donation will then be used to cover processing costs.
