SHEBOYGAN, WI (WHBL) – The Sheboygan County Division of Public Health has issued a Health Alert to draw attention to very high COVID-19 activity levels in Sheboygan County, and that action is needed now to stop the spread.
In a release issued on Wednesday, the County DPH reported regularly seeing at least 100 new COVID cases per day, and the number of cases continues to accelerate upwards. Because of that escalation, the ability of officials to investigate cases and do contact tracing has become increasingly strained. As a result, Public Health has not consistently been able to notify positive cases and their close contacts in a timely manner, severely limiting efforts to contain the virus.
Effective immediately, the Sheboygan County DPH will prioritize contacting positive cases who are 18 years old and younger first, and then individuals working in high risk settings. Following those will be all other individuals as capacity allows.
Those who have been tested but not receiving results are being advised to contact the facility that conducted testing. If this was the National Guard, and 5 days have passed without result notification, then call 1-866-419-6988.
Those who have tested positive need to stay home for a minimum of 10 days after the onset of symptoms. If you didn’t have symptoms but were tested, remain isolated for 10 days from the date of testing.
A return to work or school is OK on day 11 if you’ve been free of fever and other symptoms have improved for 24 hours, though the employer or school should still be notified. Also, upon testing positive, people are being asked to contact those who have had close contact and ask them to quarantine for 14 days from the last day of close contact with you.
