SHEBOYGAN, WI (WHBL) – New landmarks are being set nearly every day in the statistics kept by state and county agencies and as reported in the daily update from the Sheboygan County Division of Public Health.
139 new cases of COVID-19 were confirmed in Sheboygan County since Wednesday, driving the total case count here to 3,257. 58 of the new cases were detected at KMCI where an investigation remains underway. That institution has now experienced 754 cases of COVID-19. The county’s “active” case count set a new high of 567, 15 more than Wednesday. Hospitalizations jumped by six to a new high of 17 persons institutionalized now. With 198 negative test returns received, the positive percentage was over 41% (41.24%). Recoveries in the county now number 1,916, up 66 from Wednesday.
The state of Wisconsin added another 3,747 confirmed cases of COVID-19, easily surpassing the previous high single-day total of 3,279 posted this past Tuesday. With 11,455 negative tests received in the last 24 hours, the positive return rate was 24.64%. 17 more deaths were recorded since Wednesday, raising the death toll for the pandemic to 1,553. 138 more persons entered hospitals for treatment. The state hospital population surpassed 1,000 yesterday when 1,017 persons occupied rooms with COVID-19. Another 213 were awaiting test returns while being treated, and 246 COVID-19 patients were in the ICU. 449 persons were on ventilators.
The County DPH’s weekly Facility-Wide Investigation report showed 53 operations to test and contact trace now underway in the county, meaning that over half of all investigations so far are still active. 9 of those are long-term care facilities, 2 are group housing settings, 8 are non-healthcare workplaces, 1 is an “other” setting – such as an adult center, restaurant, event space or religious setting, and 33 education facilities host active investigations.

The County DHS is also reminding county residents that the second community testing event at the Sheboygan County Fairgrounds in Plymouth will be held Friday from 10 AM until 6 PM. Testing is free for anyone with symptoms or who has had close contact with a positive case. Wednesday’s inaugural event limited out before 6PM, and with a daily capacity of 300 tests, persons are urged to register ahead online at https://register.covidconnect.
