KING, WI (WSAU) – There are dozens of COVID-19 cases at the state veterans home in King.
A letter went out to family and friends of residents on Wednesday. It said, since an earlier report on October 9th, there have been 60 residents and 17 staff members test positive for Coronavirus.
There’s been one fatality in the last week, bringing the total deaths from COVID to 4.
51 residents are quarantined in Stordock Hall.
15 residents and 37 staff members are now listed as ‘recovered’.
The letter from Commandant Tammy Servatius says many staff members live in Waupaca county, which has seen a spike in Coronavirus cases this fall. “I cannot stress enough the importance of following the guidance of health officials to continue to stay home as much as possible, wear a mask when out and maintain at least six feet from others, and wash our hands frequently. We all need to stay healthy to stop the spread of this virus,” she wrote.
Servatius said, “It is truly our honor to care for each person here on campus and we are deeply affected by these illnesses and deaths.”
The veterans home has limited non-essential visits, and staff and visitors are screened for symptoms.
