The election is about 1 week away, and in Wisconsin, voting requires a photo ID. The most often-used of the options is the Wisconsin Driver License or Wisconsin ID. And while Wisconsin residents must show identification to cast their ballot there is no separate “Voter ID”, and unlike requirements for boarding a plane, entering the voting booth does not require a federally-compliant REAL ID.
The best source of answers concerning Wisconsin’s rules for voters is the Wisconsin Elections Commission. There you can find what forms of ID are accepted from US citizens by poll workers. Those currently obtaining their first Wisconsin ID should begin at the Department of Motor Vehicles website, where you’ll find a list of required documents, and then apply at the nearest DMV office. US citizens unable to get their ID from the DMV in time to vote can obtain a receipt, free of charge, valid to take to the polls for voting if the ID card isn’t available in time.
