A Manitowoc County Sheriff’s Deputy has been assigned to administrative duty while being investigated for charges filed in Calumet County.
Chief Deputy Jason Orth of the Manitowoc County Sheriff’s Office said that an employee, Andrew Beck, was temporarily reassigned to administrative duty while the pending criminal matter proceeds. The measure was said to be standard practice, is non-disciplinary, and does not reflect any determination of guilt or wrongdoing.
While the Sheriff’s Office stated that they cannot comment on specific details or allegations, a search of the Wisconsin Circuit Court Access system did provide more information.
Charges were filed against Beck in Calumet County Circuit Court Branch 2 on September 2nd, alleging that Beck committed two Class-A Misdemeanors: one of Criminal Damage to Property, and a second of the Theft of Movable Property valued in excess of $2500. No further details were available, and Beck is due to make his initial appearance on September 28th.
A Class-A Misdemeanor in Wisconsin is, according to the Wisconsin Legislature, the most serious type of misdemeanor, punishable by up to 9 months in county jail, a fine of up to $10,000, or both.
