Melba Stampfl, age 95, formerly of Sheboygan, passed away in Green Bay on September 2, 2026. She was born in Sheboygan on January 7, 1931, to William and Augusta Seltz.
Her father taught at Immanuel Lutheran School where she attended grade school. She graduated from Central High School in 1948. She worked at The Sheboygan Clinic for six years and then was employed as a medical transcriptionist at Sheboygan Orthopedics from 1964 until she retired in 1989. She married Raymond Stampfl at Immanuel Lutheran Church on September 6, 1952. They celebrated their 72nd wedding anniversary before he passed away on July 12, 2025.
She sang and traveled with the Lutheran Chorus of Sheboygan and with the choirs at Immanuel and Good Shepherd Lutheran. She was a lifetime church organist. She played at Immanuel, Christ, Good Shepherd and for a German service at the former Ebenezer Lutheran Church. She played with the Good Shepherd handbell choir for 40 years. She and Ray delivered Meals on Wheels for 15 years.
She is survived by her five children: Dr. Mark (Barbara) of Gig Harbor, WA; John (Kathy) of Kenosha, WI; Dr. Sharon (Jay Okey) of Seattle, WA; Dr. David (Dr. Connie) of Green Bay, WI; Dr. Daniel (Dr. Sharon Schriewer) of Salt Lake City, UT. Also survived by 11 grandchildren: Dr. Aaron, Joel (Jessica), Julia, Anna (Thomas Fabian), Alex (Firsty), Emily Okey (Jon Sanger), Sarah Okey (Jake Pavlovics), Erika (Adam Post), Dr, Matthew (Dr, Cassandra Chiao), Dr. Ben Stampfl, and Karl Schriewer; and 9 great grandchildren—Nicolas and Sofia Rigoni; Emmeline and Henry Fabian; Oliver Stampfl; Esther Melba, Honna Marlene, and Meera Elisabeth Post; and Adeline Rae Sanger. Also survived by a sister-in-law, June Strieby of Grand Rapids, MI. She was preceded in death by a son, James, in 1993.
Her family enjoyed her cloverleaf dinner rolls at their annual Thanksgiving dinner in Green Bay for 33 years and friends and family enjoyed hundreds of kringle and thousands of cookies.
A funeral service for Melba will be held at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 1614 S. 23rd St, Sheboygan on Monday, September 14, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. with Pastor Christian Gugel officiating. Visitation will be at the church from 1:00 p.m. to 2:45 p.m. Burial will take place at Sunrise Memorial Gardens in the Town of Wilson.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church or Sheboygan Lutheran High School.
