Darlene D. Bain, 77, of Sheboygan, passed away with her family by her side, on Saturday, August 29, 2026, at St. Vincent Hospital, Green Bay, following a courageous yet brief battle with cancer. She was born on January 31, 1949, in Tomahawk to the late Donald and Ruby (Arndt) Jones. Darlene attended a rural school, where her mother was a teacher, for the first six years of her elementary education. She then completed her seventh and eighth grades at Zion Lutheran Elementary School and graduated from Rhinelander High School with the Class of 1967. Following High School, she went on to graduate from U. W. Stevens Point earning a teaching degree in Art Education in 1972. It was here that she met the love of her life Raymond P. Bain. They were married on August 30, 1969, in Rhinelander. Together they celebrated 26 years of marriage. Ray preceded her in death on November 5, 1995.
Darlene worked as a teacher’s assistant in the special education room at Freedom Elementary School, before managing the shoe department at Meldisco/K-mart for 28 years.
Darlene was a dog lover; she rescued many over the years and opened Pawtopia, a dog sitting service. She was very artistic and crafty, enjoying painting and making special and unique things for her family and friends. Tending to her flower beds was a favorite pastime of hers, and when she wasn’t outside you could find her watching her favorite show Downton Abbey. Darlene loved her family; they were her pride and joy. Gathering them together for the holidays was a passion of hers. An excellent cook and baker, she will be remembered not only for her holiday feasts, but especially for her pie crust and rhubarb pies. Darlene was extremely organized, loyal, kind and loving. She didn’t have a large social circle but treasured those friendships in her tight knit group. Game night with her family and friends playing assorted games was always an exciting night for her. She also enjoyed playing Bunco with her Bunco group. Darlene’s true joy were her children and grandchildren, she was so proud of each of them and cherished the many memories they were able to create over the years.
Darlene is survived by her daughter Monica (Jonathan) Hamm of Plymouth and son Aaron (Angela) Bain of Green Bay, her cherished grandchildren Korryn and Gavin Hamm, sister-in-law Christine Wojciechowski, brother-in-law Gary (Sue) Bain, lifelong friend Lowell Hoeft and dear friend Marilyn Wilke. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Ray, brother-in-law Mike Wojciechowski and her beloved fur babies.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Friday, September 4, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Grace Episcopal Church 1011 N. 7th St., Sheboygan, with The Ven Michele Whitford officiating. Burial will take place in Lawrence Cemetery in De Pere. Relatives and friends may visit with the family on Friday, September 4, 2026, from 10:00 AM until the time of mass at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Grace Episcopal Church in Darlene’s name.
