Investigators believe that a medical emergency may have led to a single-vehicle rollover crash just before 11 AM this Monday morning. Multiple 911 calls reporting the accident were received in the Fond du Lac County Emergency Communications Center with initial reports of an unresponsive driver trapped in the vehicle.
Deputies from the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office, the Eden Fire Department and Campbellsport Ambulance were first on the scene, and the Deputy was able to free the driver with the assistance of two bystanders. Deputies immediately began sharing CPR duties on the victim, who was not breathing, and paramedics from Campbellsport Ambulance and a Fond du Lac Fire Rescue Unit soon took over. Although a flight was requested from ThedaStar Medical Helicopter, weather conditions prevented its flight and the patient was conveyed by ground ambulance to ThedaCare Regional Medical Center in Neenah with life-threatening injuries.
The victim has been identified as a 57-year-old Kewaskum woman who was the lone occupant of the vehicle which was southbound on US Highway 45 when it left the roadway, struck a driveway embankment, and overturned. It’s suspected that a medical emergency initiated the incident, and Highway 45 was closed between County Roads “F” and “W” for around 45 minutes.
