Marjorie N. Mattern, of Sheboygan, passed away March 19th at the age of 101. Born Feb. 2, 1925 to Dr. H.L. and Mary Rose, Marge attended Sheboygan schools, graduating from Central High in 1943. Following WWII, she married Robert Mattern in 1947. The couple returned to Sheboygan in 1949, after working in the orchards in Washington state.
A strong believer in service to the community, Marge volunteered continuously throughout her adulthood. She was elected to terms as a Sheboygan County Supervisor and the SASD Board of Education. Marge was a committee member with the Sheboygan Parks department for 49 years. She volunteered on the Sheboygan County Housing Authority, Maywood Environmental Center, St. Luke’s United Methodist Church and the Sheboygan County YMCA.
Marge’s service to the community was recognized by Mayoral Proclamations, on both her 88th and 100th birthdays.
Marge is survived by her five children: John (Alice), Albuquerque, Edward (Denise Pimintel) El Dorado Hills, CA, David (Antoinette), Sheboygan, Carolyn Mattern (Douglas Mangan), Golden, CO, and Kathleen Steinbruecker, Sheboygan.
Her 11 grandchildren are Steven Mattern (Grit Ramschukat), Albuquerque, Andy Mattern (Aubrey Rimer), Oklahoma City, Nick Mattern (Brianna), Honolulu, Hawaii, Evan Mattern, El Dorado Hills, and Jack Mattern, Johnstown, CO, Karl Mattern, Milwaukee, Lucy Mattern, Sheboygan, Anna Mattern Mangan (Nick Kiggins) and Alan Mattern Mangan (Amanda Moeller), Colorado, Luke Steinbruecker (Lizbeth), Sheboygan, and Leah Steinbruecker, Sheboygan.
Marge had six great-grandchildren: Wesley and Henry Mattern, Albuquerque, Clyde, Frank and Jack Steinbruecker, Sheboygan, Dagny Mangan Kiggins, Loveland, Colorado.
In addition to her husband and parents, Marge was preceded in death by her sister, Marian Berger and brother, Ernst (Buddy) Rose.
A private family burial will be held.
The family requests donations be made, in lieu of flowers, in Marge’s name, to Sharon Richardson Hospice.
