A Blizzard impacting a large part of the nation’s midsection is also having its way with the Sheboygan area and all of Wisconsin. The Blizzard Warning remains in effect until 4 this afternoon as winds of 40-45 MPH accompanying snow falling at inch-per-hour rates are expected to create blizzard conditions, meaning frequent gusts over 35 MPH combined with significant falling or blowing snow that reduces visibility to less than a quarter mile for 3 hours or longer.

NWS Graphic
So far today the Sheboygan County Airport has recorded frequent gusts to 44 MPH with a top gust of 54. And while snowfall measurements are difficult, the National Weather Service estimates about 3 inches has fallen on the area so far. Another 6 to 10 inches can be expected before the storm winds down.

NWS Graphic
For the remainder of the morning, bands of heavy snow at rates of an inch per hour are expected through mid-morning before tapering off from south to north, but winds will keep the already-fallen snow airborne.
511 Wisconsin’s travel map indicated that travel is not recommended in the Sheboygan area – and much of Wisconsin – as roads are snow-covered and brisk winds keep road crews busy battling constant replacement of the snow. People are advised to stay home if at all possible and wait until conditions improve for any traveling today.
