March may’ve come in like a lamb, but the kind of weather that can give forecasters a workout looks poised to put the Sheboygan area and much of Wisconsin in the lion’s grip, starting with the wind.
A Wind Advisory was posted for Wisconsin generally south of Highway 29 from midnight tonight until 6 PM Friday. Winds may gust to 50 MPH throughout the period with sustained winds of between 25 and 35 MPH…enough to threaten downed tree limbs and power interruptions while making driving difficult as well.
Overnight rain may transition to freezing precipitation Friday morning and forecasters are considering the possibility of snow squall activity on Friday as well while the already-strong winds would add further hazards to gusty squalls.
The main act, though will be this weekend, and forecasters continue to struggle with placing the axis of heaviest expected snowfall. Aside from the snow, forecasters are seeing signs of sleet and freezing rain in southern Wisconsin, mostly for Saturday night and Sunday. For now, Sheboygan County is forecast to receive all snow beginning around sunset Saturday and continuing into Monday morning. And while uncertainty remains very high, and exact amounts are nearly impossible to forecast at this point, adding all the current 6-hour snowfall estimates result in totals exceeding one foot.
