The Manitowoc County Sheriff’s Office is responding to a recent increase in scam calls impersonating law enforcement.
The caller claims missed jury duty as the reason to cough up $800 in gift cards or else face arrest. The pressure to come through was maintained throughout, even including instructions to avoid speaking with deputies.
This is not new, and such calls can be handled as fraudulent as soon as you receive them. Hang up, don’t engage with the caller, and do not provide any personal information or form of payment.
Anyone who has fallen victim and lost money should call the Manitowoc County Sheriff’s Office as soon as possible for the best chance of any remediation.
