As the Sheboygan area continues experiencing a worker shortage, a recent study shows that hiring of foreign workers under the H-1B Visa program ranks Sheboygan as the 62nd out of the 542 small metro areas in the US hiring workers from outside the border. The H-1B program allows the temporary hiring of a foreign professional with theoretical or technical expertise and a bachelor’s degree or higher, and it costs employers $100,000 to obtain the visa.
A recent study by Manifest Law, an immigration law firm which specializes in employment-based visas, identified the US locations and industries that rely most on H-1B visa employees. That study found 23 total new hires in the Sheboygan Metro Area, a rate of 3.6 per 10,000 workers, and a total of 53 new visa approvals, most of those in Manufacturing.
Overall, the Sheboygan Metro Area shows 8.3 H-1B approvals per 10,000 workers. For reference, total US approvals in all market sizes represent 25.5 per 10,000 workers.
