Lyle “Duff” VerVelde, 90, of Oostburg, went Home to be with the Lord on Thursday, February 12, 2026, at A Cedar Grove Senior Living, formerly Cedar Grove Gardens.
Duff was born September 27, 1935, to Edward and Mildred (Oonk) VerVelde in Sheboygan. He graduated from Oostburg High School in 1953. He was united in marriage to Ann Hopeman on October 2, 1954, at Hingham Reformed Church. They made countless memories throughout their 69-year marriage before Ann’s passing in 2023.
Duff enjoyed sales and had a long, successful career of 64 years in farm implement/construction sales until his retirement in December of 2019. Duff was a member of several area churches over the years. He served as the Sunday School Superintendent and was involved with Ann in the J.O.Y. singers. Duff was a Charter Member of Oostburg Jaycee’s, a member of the Outstanding Young Farmers Association, and served on the Oostburg School Board. For many years, he played and coached baseball and basketball. He enjoyed golfing, traveling, wintering in Florida, playing cards and bingo, and snowmobiling. Above all, he loved time spent with family and friends.
Duff is survived by his daughter, Lynn (Randall) Walford; daughters-in-law, Deborah (Kevin) VerVelde-Styles, Lori VerVelde; grandchildren, Amy (Shawn) Spellich, Jon (Holli) VanDeWege, Matthew (Kim) VanDeWege, Chad (Rumina Vasileva) VerVelde, Dane VerVelde, Malorie (fiancé Randall Theune) Styles, Justin (Melissa) VerVelde, Spencer (Sarah) VerVelde, Jasmine (Shawn) Verbrigghe, Alexander (Alyssa) Walford; great-grandchildren, Kenneth (Chris) Spellich, Benjamin (Brooke) Spellich, Nicholas (Justice) Spellich, Caden, Ethan, and Grace VanDeWege, Elise, Case, Christian, Adelynn, Crew, and Ivy VanDeWege, Gavin VerVelde, Kenlee Smies, Reed Theune, Owen and Tanner VerVelde, Emerson, Isabelle, and Turner Walford; great-great-grandchildren, Jace Spellich, Colten and Chloe Spellich, Everleigh and Shepard Spellich. He is further survived by his stepsisters, Diane Oonk and Mary Jo Oonk; sister-in-law Harriet Jensema; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Duff was preceded in death by his wife, Ann; children: Kenneth VerVelde, Deborah (Don) VanDeWege, Robert VerVelde; parents; step-mother, Dorothy (Wingert Oonk) VerVelde; parents-in-law, Jesse and Esther (Wilterdink) Hopeman; brother, Wayne (Constance) VerVelde; step-sister, Beverly (Oonk) Vandowski; sisters-in-law, Jean Hopeman (infant) and Jane (Andrew) Smies; brothers-in-law, David “Bill” W. (Mary) Hopeman, and Calvin Jensema.
A Celebration of Duff’s life will be held at Wenig Funeral Home in Oostburg on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, at 1:00pm with Pastor Brian Taylor officiating. A livestream of the service can be viewed by visiting Duff’s obituary page at wenigfh.com. Relatives and friends may greet the family at the Funeral Home on Tuesday from 10:00am until 12:45pm. He will be laid to rest privately with family at Hingham Cemetery beside Ann.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are appreciated in Duff’s name to Oostburg School Endowment Fund, Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice, The Gathering Place Memory Matters Program, or LIVASU Dementia Village.
