The experience of an Oshkosh area resident while attempting to walk across the Fox River in that city serves as a reminder from the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office that “no ice is safe ice”.
The Winnebago County 911 Comm Center received the call of a person cold and wet after falling into the Fox River near Ohio Street in the City of Oshkosh around 8:10 PM Tuesday. The man was able to get safely to shore where he called 911 for assistance. A passerby also called 911 for help, and law enforcement and first responders were quickly on the scene to assure that the man was uninjured.
Items left on the ice by the person were being recovered by Winnebago County authorities, who remind the public that ice on the Fox River is especially hazardous due to local currents.
