Telephone reports of an armed man walking down a sidewalk near a school and placing a firearm in a snowbank triggered a vigorous response in Fond du Lac on Tuesday.
It was dismissal time for Winnebago Lutheran Academy on Maple Avenue when the man was spotted by callers, forcing the school into an immediate lockdown. Responding units quickly located and secured the individual of interest, and further investigation revealed that they never owned or possessed a gun.
Further investigation revealed that the caller was the man’s sister, who called from Texas in order to get her brother in trouble through a false report – an incident known as “swatting”. Officials say they plan to press charges against the woman.
