Whatever image comes to mind when the term “robot” is used, it’s probably nothing like the one that is now in service at HSHS St. Nicholas Hospital. The new device is the “ROSA Robotic Surgical Assistant”, which allows the orthopedic surgeon to tailor procedures to the specific anatomy of each patient.
In order to make the procedure work, data specific to the patient’s anatomy is collected both before, and during surgery, that informs the surgeon of many unique details that may affect the fit of an implant. As a result, surgeons achieve greater precision and flexibility while reducing complications, improving recovery times and decreasing future revision rates.
The ROSA system for knee replacement is made available through Prevea Health and its partner, HSHS St. Nicholas Hospital.
