Lindee Brill, Republican Representative for the 27th Assembly District
A bill co-authored by Sheboygan Falls Assembly Representative Lindee Brill along with Senator Andre Jacque of New Franken aims to support stillbirth parents through a tax break. The bipartisan legislation passed the Assembly Committee on Ways and Means on Wednesday on a 9-0 vote.
Assembly Bill 373 was described by Brill as “…a vital, bipartisan piece of legislation that will make a real difference in the lives of Wisconsin families suffering the loss of a child through stillbirth.”
Over 300 Wisconsin mothers endure the trauma of stillbirth each year. AB373 aims to soften the trauma by providing a $2,000 refundable individual income tax credit to parents of stillborn children in Wisconsin, something eight other states have already enacted.
The bill’s identical companion legislation, SB379, passed the Senate Committee on Agriculture and Revenue on an 8-0 vote in September. Both bills now await a vote before the full Assembly and Senate before moving to the governor for final approval.
