Much as technology may change, one thing that hasn’t changed since about 30 years ago: once on the internet, nothing disappears. That seems to be the case concerning a search for Data Center siting in Sheboygan County.
After accessing an article from the Sheboygan Economic Development Corporation, complete with documentation and detail, we published a story suggesting an ongoing search for possible data center siting in Sheboygan County. The search was, indeed, initiated. However, the overall release published by the SCEDC wasn’t dated. Along with another new tech trouble, that led to unfortunate confusion with present-day events.
SCEDC Finance and Operations Officer TJ Crowns contacted WHBL after they heard from New North, the agency that coordinates investments with opportunity in Northeast Wisconsin. Crowns informed WHBL news that their website, currently being reconstructed, displayed the out-of-date information that peaked our interest, but should not have been available as current news. Still-active links led to enough background information that, in light of recent events in nearby Ozaukee County, fit perfectly with the present-day data climate.
In a subsequent conversation with New North President and CEO, Barb Lamue, it was clarified that yes, the study was commissioned some years ago by New North, but that no action had been taken since. Lamue also agreed that everything seemed to be valid, current information based upon recent events in Wisconsin.
She did add that the conversation on Data Centers is an active one, both across the country and Wisconsin, but that New North was not in a position to offer any opinion concerning Sheboygan County at this point.
As a news organization, WHBL regrets any confusion caused as a result of the article, and will continue to follow any further development as current, accurate information becomes available.
