A suspect had to be talked into surrendering after driving into Lake Winnebago this Thursday morning in a series of events that began in Sheboygan County.
Sheboygan County notified Calumet County authorities at around 2:19 AM that a subject on electronic monitoring was traveling through Calumet County. Moments earlier, the Green Bay Police Department had notified Calumet County to look for a subject wanted by their agency on multiple felony charges along with bail jumping, fleeing and eluding, and who was armed with a machete and baseball bat.
The subject was located driving south on Highway 57/32 through Chilton and when ordered, failed to stop for a Chilton Police Officer. The chase eventually entered Fond du Lac County and ended when the vehicle went off the road into Lake Winnebago off the end of Gladwater Beach Road, about 10 miles to the southwest. The entire chase spanned over 20 miles, but wasn’t yet over.
The subject initially refused to surrender and remained in his partially-submerged vehicle. Under the observation of drones, negotiators persisted until the subject surrendered and was taken into custody without further incident. Several bladed weapons and a baseball bat were located in his vehicle. He’s now housed in the Calumet County Jail on Fleeing/Eluding and Felony Bail Jumping Charges.
