A false report of a crime will be prosecuted as a crime itself in Fond du Lac County.
The Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office reports that it was called to the Village of Eden at around 11:30 this past Sunday night for a report of a robbery. The responding deputy began his investigation in the area of County Highways “B” and “D” where a vehicle was parked on the roadway with its hazard lights on. A male wearing dark clothing and with three cats was nearby. The reporting caller had claimed to have stopped on the roadway, witnessed the man put on a ski mask, walk up to her vehicle and begin tapping on her window with a pistol, demanding money. The woman said that after turning over $1,200 in cash to the man, he left her vehicle, picked up the cats and returned to his truck.
A detective assigned to investigate the incident uncovered significant evidence to suggest that the story was fabricated.
The reporting party was arrested on Thursday morning and booked into the Fond du Lac County Jail on charges of Misuse of 911 – False Emergency, and obstructing. The case remains under development and no further info was being released at this time.
