Those preparing to celebrate Independence Day in one of Sheboygan’s City Parks while enjoying a “cool one” or other beverage should know that not all City Parks allow you to consume alcohol. So that you’re aware, here’s what the City Municipal Code says about that:
The possession or consumption of fermented malt beverages or intoxicating liquors is prohibited in all city parks except the following:
Cleveland, End, Evergreen, King, Kiwanis, Lakeview, and Veterans Parks allow it, and so does Vollrath Park except during public school commencements, so you’re good this weekend. But if you’re celebrating on any city beach, alcohol is a no-no. There is, however, an exception for Deland Park especially made for the 4th of July.
At Deland Park you can possess and consume alcohol during the City’s 4th of July celebration, or whenever the city grants the use of a park through its reservations system, but in all cases, that’s restricted to the portion of the park that lies south of the North Pier.
One more reminder, those building bonfires on the beach should restrict their size to no more than 36 inches across and 18 inches high, and only between 6 and 10 PM. When you’re done, either drown it or leave it to safely burn out, but please don’t bury it. Happy 4th of July!
