Steven J. Eigenberger (“Schteeve”) passed away peacefully, Thursday morning, May 1, 2025 at Sharon S. Richardson Community
Hospice in Sheboygan Falls. He was 75 years old.
Steve was born August 27, 1949, in Plymouth, the second of 13 children of Warren “Eggs” and
Rosemary (Nigh) Eigenberger. He graduated from Sheboygan Falls High School in 1967.
On May 14, 1983, he was united in marriage with Diane Baack at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in
Sheboygan Falls.
A third-generation barber who apprenticed under his father Warren, Steve carried on a small-
town legacy at Eigenberger Barber Shop for 54 years. For Steve, it was more than just a job; he
genuinely cared for his clients and valued the many friendships he formed there. Steve’s
dedication to his craft as a barber extended far beyond the walls of his shop. He made regular
visits to local nursing homes and hospice facilities to provide haircuts for clients who could no
longer travel- a gesture that brought comfort, dignity, and connection to many. Known as a
confidant and “therapist” to many, his kindness and service left a lasting impression.
A lifelong advocate for being a good person and giving back, Steve dedicated himself to his
community. Steve played a pivotal role in launching the Main Street Program in Sheboygan
Falls, generously donating the office above his barber shop for the use of the program’s
directors and serving on its inaugural board. He served as a member of the police and fire
commission for 25 years and was a long-standing member of the Sheboygan Falls Lions Club.
Additionally, he was a member of Blessed Trinity Parish in Sheboygan Falls. Always ready to
lend a helping hand, he extended his support to family, friends, and neighbors alike. His
patriotism was evident as he enjoyed driving veterans in his collection of classic cars during
Memorial Day parades, honoring those who served.
Steve was a lifelong Packers fan, regularly pacing through games. He had a deep appreciation
for Bob Dylan’s music, known to have engaged in 30-hour listening marathons. He was an avid
reader and a student of the Urantia Book, approaching life with curiosity and an open mind. He
believed he was graduating into a higher, more spiritual realm.
Known for enjoying a good Old Fashioned, building giant fires, and being the life of the party, he
had a talent for storytelling, with a remarkable memory and a flair for embellishment. One of
his favorite stories includes an epic ride from Florida with the Freedom Riders as a young boy.
His quick wit, sometimes dark humor, and winning smile will be dearly missed.
Steve’s love of classic cars came from his Uncle Duane and he took pride in influencing others
to share his passion for automobiles. If you ever needed a used car or motorcycle, you could
always count on “Honest Schteeve” to find you a deal.
His adventurous spirit fueled his passion for travel, whether through long road trips, cross-
country motorcycle rides, or countless bar stops, where he always managed to make a new
friend or encounter a colorful character along the way. He never liked to sit still for very long.
He especially cherished his regular vacations in Florida with his wife Diane and enjoyed visiting
his children, who are spread across the country.
An eternal optimist, Steve believed every day was a gift and often shared his “quote of the day”
to inspire or amuse. He approached life with a can-do spirit and a belief that “everything will
work out in the end”.
In his final years, Steve faced ALS with grace, dignity, and unwavering positivity. In honor of his
hope for a cure, he chose to be a donor through the Medical College of Wisconsin to support
ALS research.
Steve is survived by his loving wife of nearly 42 years, Diane; He was a proud father to all his
children: Dylan (Erika) Eigenberger of Robbinsdale, MN, Luke Eigenberger of Sheboygan Falls,
Sarah Riggans of Hilliard, OH, from his first marriage to Joan Schnur (Jarvis) and Liesl (Jose
