The police didn’t get their man at the time – but they know who they’re looking for, and that person has a load to answer for after a series of high-speed pursuits in Fond du Lac and Winnebago Counties in late February.
The Sheriff’s Office there relates that back on February 27th at around 11 a.m., a Sheriff’s Sergeant attempted to stop a vehicle traveling at high speed on I-41 in the Township of Eldorado, which was being operated by a known individual with active warrants from probation and parole. The driver fled, leading law enforcement into Winnebago County and eventually onto Highway 45 / Lakeshore Drive where the chase was called off after 8 miles for safety.
The driver was again spotted on Van Dyne Road in Eldorado when a second pursuit began along several roads with stop sticks deployed – but avoided by the driver – and again driving at high speed on Lakeshore Drive for 15-1/2 miles before law enforcement again broke off the pursuit for safety south of Oshkosh.
On Tuesday the Sheriff announced plans to file charges against the as-yet unidentified driver, consisting of Felony Eluding and First Degree Recklessly Endangering Safety.
