Democratic-backed Dane County Judge Susan Crawford was declared the winner of the open seat on the Wisconsin Supreme Court. Crawford defeated Republican-backed former Wisconsin attorney general Brad Schimel. Itโs the most expensive state Supreme Court race in U.S. history, with both sides spending over an estimated 100-million dollars.
Jill Underly, the incumbent state superintendent will retain her position. Underly was challenged by Brittany Kinser who was a former special education teacher and principal. Underly was endorsed by democrats and Kinser was backed by republicans. Wisconsin is the only state where it votes for its state superintendent as they do not have a state board of education.
Voters also approved a proposed constitutional amendment requiring Photo ID to vote. The Republican-controlled Legislature placed the measure on the ballot โ this will block future legislatures from being able to change the law.
