Sheboygan City Attorney Charles Adams has vacated his position according to a law firm retained by the City Council in order to advise them concerning a report reviewed during last week Mondayโs closed hearing by the Committee of the Whole.
The Committee was convened โto receive the report from independent counsel related to the conduct and performance of the City Attorney and otherwise deliberate concerning the contents of the report and the potential ramifications of the report under City ordinances and state law.โ WHBL News has filed a Freedom of Information Act request in order to obtain a copy of that report, but has not yet been supplied with the document.
After receiving several reports over the weekend that the City Attorney had resigned, WHBL News requested clarification from City Administrator Casey Bradley. In response, the following was received from Malia Malone, an attorney with the law firm of Attolles Law S.C. of Milwaukee who was asked to respond to that query:
โOur firm has been retained to advise the City Council on the process of addressing the information that was shared in closed session last week. First, the report reviewed by the Council in closed session was a report completed by the law firm of von Briesen and Roper.โ
(Editors note โ WHBL News had been informed that the investigation was handled by the Fond du Lac Police Department and therefore they were contacted with the FOIA request). It continued:
โSecond, Mr. Adams did communicate his intent to resign from his position as City Attorney. He communicated this with the City Administrator on Wednesday, March 19th. He did this of his own volition and was not asked to resign by anyone at the City. The City has accepted his resignation and his last day of working for the City was also that same day, March 19th.โ
The message indicated that a news release will be forthcoming that should provide more detail.
WHBL News will follow up when more information is received.
