With only hours left in astronomical winter, the season departed by throwing a tantrum, resulting in dozens of cars going into Sheboygan County ditches, hundreds without power at times, and a sloppy mess to clean up.
Timing was as expected, with rain and thunderstorms transitioning to a wintery mix soon after sunset making for slippery roads, and clinging to power lines. Whipped by winds gusting as high as 49 mph, some of those lines were snapped by weight or hit by falling branches. By 4 a.m., most power had been restored except for a dozen or so near Cascade, but in Manitowoc County, over 500 were still in the dark before dawn.

NWS Graphic
The storm is now on its way out, leaving only patchy snow and gusty winds in its wake, and temperatures rising into the mid 30s with growing sunshine should help make quick work of the snowโฆand give spring its rightful debut.
