
Wilfred J. Basler, age 88, passed away at Sheboygan Progressive Heath Services on March 17, 2025. He was born to the late Wilfred and Dorothy (Anhalt) Basler in Plymouth on March 10, 1937. Bill graduated from Central High School. In 1955 Bill joined the U.S. Navy. Following his high school graduation in 1957, he met the love of his life, Diane Eirich. On October 26, 1957, they were united marriage at St. Dominic Church in Sheboygan. They were married almost 67 years before her passing last year. Together, they raised five children: Michael, William, Christine, Joseph and Kathryn.
Bill had a 20-year military career with the U.S. Navy, his permanent retirement from the military was after 30 years in August 1983. In his retirement days, he held various jobs around Sheboygan. Bill was handy, he could fix and repair anything.
Bill enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, watching Gunsmoke and watching or listening to the Milwaukee Brewers. His favorite pastime was sitting on the deck with the birds, smoking a cigar and taking naps. Bill was a loving person, was quick to spark up a conversation with anyone. He will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Bill is survived by his children Michael (Jill) Basler, William (Linda) Basler, Christine Null, Joseph (Irene) Basler and Kathryn Stone; his grandchildren Trevor, Tara, Joshua, Luke, Melissa, Scott, Arthur, James, Samantha, Cassandra, Angela, Brandon, Nicholas, Alonzoeh, Shaquille, Malcolm, Alexandrea and Dianalisa. He is further survived by many great-grandchildren; brother David (Lynn) Basler; sister Rose Ann Basler; brother-in-law Dennis (Marilyn) Eirich; and other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife Diane Basler, his infant son, brother Peter (Mary) Basler; sister Annette Basler; and sister-in-law Shirley Basler.
A funeral service for Bill will be held on Friday, March 28, 2025, at Ballhorn Chapels 1201 N. 8th St. in Sheboygan at 11:00 a.m., with Fr. Nick Baumardner officiating. Relatives and friends may visit with the family from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home.
