A forecast that shows little rest from the winds has a cautionary request coming from the Sheboygan County Sheriffโs Office. That request is that anyone that may have planned a controlled burn during the upcoming week cancel those plans.
The National Weather Service said that elevated, to near-critical fire weather conditions are expected today due to a combination of gusty winds, low humidity, and dry fuels. The most significant threat today is along and west of a line from Janesville to Green Lake. However, the Wisconsin DNR reports that throughout the region from Sheboygan County on westward, as well as northward through Marinette and Door Counties, a high fire danger exists.
Winds today will be sustained between 15 and 25 mph with gusts over 30, and pick up again Wednesday and Thursday with similar velocities expected. While it will be dry today and tomorrow, a Wednesday storm system is poised to put down over a half inch of moisture which should settle the fire risk, but also could end with an inch or more of snow on the ground by Thursday morning.
