Improvements to Kohler Andrae State Park have gotten a boost thanks to a state grant from the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources. The DNR announced its Stewardship Funding for Friends Grants to 28 nonprofit organizations for improvements at DNR properties across the State. The total funding for the 32 projects adds up to over $430,000 dollars, leveraging more than $660,000 in matching contributions and $3.4 million in total project costs.
Among the recipients was the Friends of Kohler Andrae State Park, a non-profit support organization dedicated to assisting the Department of Natural Resources at the park. The Friends will be using the grant towards the construction of a new amphitheater. Donations are also being accepted for benches along with major components of the equipment and stage.
The grants awarded on Thursday are made possible by the Knowles-Nelson Stewardship Fund, which annually distributes a half million dollars for State Park improvements.
