The City of Sheboygan is soon going to get more canopy cover courtesy of Alliant Energy. The utility named 11 Wisconsin Communities including Sheboygan who are receiving grants totaling over $50,000 through the company’s Community Tree Planting program, part of an initiative to plant one million trees in Wisconsin and Iowa by the end of 2030. The trees shade homes, improve water quality and protect wildlife, and significantly for Alliant – they reduce greenhouse gases. Alliant partners with Trees Forever to help communities develop, select and plant a diverse mix of trees. That’s especially welcome in cities like Sheboygan which suffered the decimation of Ash Trees from the Emerald Ash Borer.
Sheboygan received the highest tier award from the program this year, with $5,000 directed towards the planting and nurturing of 75 trees, the highest number of trees within any project on this year’s list.
